ADMISSION TO DEGREE STATUS
1.
Consideration for admission to degree status shall be given
to candidates who successfully meet the following requirements:
- an
undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
- minimum
undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 (based on maximum
of 4.0) or a 3.0 during the undergraduate senior year
- a
minimum overall graduate grade point average of 3.0 (based
on a maximum of 4.0) for all graduate studies completed at
the time of application

specifics)

Additional supporting documents which the applicant must provide
for admission review purposes include
- a
Personal Data Form-includes a statement of the applicant's
educational and career goals, including the appropriateness
of the M.S. program to these goals.
- three
Rating Forms-completed by professionals familiar with the
applicant's educational and professional background. In the
case of applicants who have graduated within the past five
years, at least two of these recommendations should be from
faculty qualified to comment upon the applicant's collegiate
academic performance and potential for successful graduate
study. Applicants should furnish evaluators with a self-addressed,
stamped envelope and be responsible for evaluators returning
the forms in a timely manner. Allow at least one month for
evaluators to complete the forms.
- official
transcripts from previously attended educational institutions.
Transcript should be sent to the Graduate School along with
all additional materials and forms required by the Graduate
School.
- additional
documentation, when possible, to further demonstrate the
student's professional promise. Among the materials which
may be submitted for this purpose are publication reprints,
papers presented, copies of grant proposals developed, and/or
other exhibits.
- Strong
consideration will be given to applicants with a minimum
of three years of professional experience.
Progression
in Degree Status
- A
full-time student, if unconditionally admitted, can complete
all course requirements within one calendar year. Part-time
students typically complete the program in two to three years.
- The
Graduate School allows up to six calendar years to earn the
M.S. degree.
- Once
admitted to the program, each student must consult with an
academic advisor to plan an appropriate program.
Deadlines
for Applicant Reviews
- All
application materials must be received by the Safety Academic
Program Committee including those required by the Graduate
School before application review can begin.
- To
insure that your application is complete and ready for faculty
review, you should begin the application process at least three
months prior to the desired semester of enrollment. Applications
are reviewed each semester. You should follow-up on the status
of your application materials by contacting the Department
of Health and Safety Sciences at 974-5041 or Dr. Susan Smith
at 974-1108.
