ADMISSION TO DEGREE STATUS

1. Consideration for admission to degree status shall be given to candidates who successfully meet the following requirements:

  • an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
  • minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 (based on maximum of 4.0) or a 3.0 during the undergraduate senior year
  • a minimum overall graduate grade point average of 3.0 (based on a maximum of 4.0) for all graduate studies completed at the time of application
o compliance with Graduate School requirements (See Graduate Catalog for specifics)

2. Additional supporting documents which the applicant must provide for admission review purposes include

  • a Personal Data Form-includes a statement of the applicant's educational and career goals, including the appropriateness of the M.S. program to these goals.
  • three Rating Forms-completed by professionals familiar with the applicant's educational and professional background. In the case of applicants who have graduated within the past five years, at least two of these recommendations should be from faculty qualified to comment upon the applicant's collegiate academic performance and potential for successful graduate study. Applicants should furnish evaluators with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and be responsible for evaluators returning the forms in a timely manner. Allow at least one month for evaluators to complete the forms.
  • official transcripts from previously attended educational institutions. Transcript should be sent to the Graduate School along with all additional materials and forms required by the Graduate School.
  • additional documentation, when possible, to further demonstrate the student's professional promise. Among the materials which may be submitted for this purpose are publication reprints, papers presented, copies of grant proposals developed, and/or other exhibits.
  • Strong consideration will be given to applicants with a minimum of three years of professional experience.

Progression in Degree Status

  1. A full-time student, if unconditionally admitted, can complete all course requirements within one calendar year. Part-time students typically complete the program in two to three years.
  2. The Graduate School allows up to six calendar years to earn the M.S. degree.
  3. Once admitted to the program, each student must consult with an academic advisor to plan an appropriate program.

Deadlines for Applicant Reviews

  1. All application materials must be received by the Safety Academic Program Committee including those required by the Graduate School before application review can begin.
  2. To insure that your application is complete and ready for faculty review, you should begin the application process at least three months prior to the desired semester of enrollment.
